The St. Joseph School Board supports and implements the philosophy of St. Joseph School. The board represents parents and the parish community in decisions relating to the direction of the school. The Board is consultative to the school administration and the Pastor. They establish goals and long-range planning, formulate and monitor policy, prepare and implement the budget, are responsible for the school’s public relations, and review and evaluate programs.
Alex Galvan – President
Dr. Alex Galvan, a dentist by profession, and his wife Rose, a registered nurse, are proud parents of 3 St. Joseph School students – Andrea (6th Grade), Andrew (4th Grade) and Abigail (2nd Grade). Dr. Galvan practices General, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry at his two offices in Ontario and Rialto, CA. He is on his second year of serving in the School Board. Dr. Galvan and Rose, current treasurer of the Parent Teacher Group (PTG), are active members of St. Joseph Church and Couples for Christ, an evangelistic ministry. The children also serve as altar servers and members of the Parish Children’s Choir.
Harold Miller – Vice President
Harold Miller has been a Mechanical Engineer for over 20 years and a resident of Upland for over 20 years. He is married to Heather and together they have 4 wonderful daughters. The Miller family has been a part of the St Joseph’s family since 2004. Harold’s 2 oldest daughters have gone through St Joseph’s School, one of which is currently pursuing an accounting degree at Cal Poly Pomona and the other is a senior at St Lucy’s in Glendora. Harold’s 2 younger daughters are currently enrolled at St Joseph’s School in 2nd and 8th grade.
Nicole Mehas – Secretary
Nicole Mehas is married to her husband Ryan who is a St. Joseph alumni and together they have two children, Megan who is a sophomore at St. Lucy’s Priory High School and Logan who is in 7th grade at St. Joseph School. Nicole Mehas is serving as this years School Board Secretary and it is her first year serving on the board. Nicole was a Registered Nurse for 19 years in the emergency room and recently retired from her profession to help her husband in their businesses. They own two construction companies, Mehas Construction, Inc and Baldy Electric, Inc. Her hope is to use her own gifts to promote thorough, thoughtful discussion of important concerns in our Catholic community and to be an active voice while serving the children and parents of St. Joseph School.
Anthony Trejo has two children at St. Joseph’s School – Carlotta (6th grade) and Clayton (2nd grade). As a Parent, St. Joseph’s School Alumni (Class of 1983) and a St. Joseph Church Parishioner, Anthony and his wife, Clarissa, also a St. Joseph’s School Alumni, are very involved with school events and both Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. The Trejo family have a long history of involvement and appreciation for everything that goes into building and improving this school for our children. Anthony is also an employee for the City of Upland for over 30 years.
Kelly Stilkey has two kids enrolled at St. Joseph, a daughter in 5th grade, a son in 1st, a son at Damien, and a daughter at home. She has attended Catholic school her whole academic life and attends Mass with her family regularly. For the past thirteen years she has helped in the day to day operations of their family business as well as own and operate a bbq catering business with her husband. She is a law enforcement wife, and takes great pride in supporting her family while being at home with her children.
Madge Arafol is a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at St. Bernardine Medical Center, a Catholic hospital in the city of San Bernardino. She has been with the hospital for 9 years, and finds fulfillment in the fact that her job is like a “hidden profession that saves lives,” as CLS’s help doctors in providing patient diagnosis, in an accurate and timely manner. Madge and her husband, Gerald have a wonderful 6th grade at St. Joseph, Sebastian. Madge has been a room parent twice, as well as two-time chairperson for the school’s Cookie Dough fundraiser. The Arafol family feels very blessed to be part of the St. Joseph family, and hopes that with Madge being on the school board, it will give them a chance to give back to the school by helping develop a community of students whose learning potential is maximized and who have a sense of responsibility to God, their school and their community.
