The St. Joseph School Board supports and implements the philosophy of St. Joseph School. The board represents parents and the parish community in decisions relating to the direction of the school. The Board is consultative to the school administration and the Pastor. They establish goals and long-range planning, formulate and monitor policy, prepare and implement the budget, are responsible for the school’s public relations, and review and evaluate programs.
Harold Miller – President
Harold Miller has been a Mechanical Engineer for over 25 years and a resident of Upland for over 20 years. He is married to Heather and together they have 4 wonderful daughters. The Miller family has been a part of the St. Joseph School family since 2004. Harold’s 2 oldest daughters have gone through St Joseph School as well as St. Lucy’s Priory High School in Glendora and one has graduated with a double major in Accounting and Human Resources Management and is currently enrolled in the MBA program at Cal Poly Pomona and the other is a sophomore in pursuit of a business degree at Cal Poly Pomona. Nora is a sophomore at St. Lucy’s and Harold’s youngest daughter, Olivia, is currently enrolled at St. Joseph School in 4th grade.
Bev Lopez – Vice President
Bev Lopez has had a professional career in accounting and clerical support spanning over 35 years. She retired, after 20 years, in August 2020 from Pomona College in Claremont where she had worked in accounting/payroll and then as an Academic Support Specialist. Prior to her going to work at the college she had been a “fixture” around St. Joseph Church and School since the mid 1980’s. She had overseen and worked as part of the Sunday church collection team, festival treasurer, evening parish receptionist, parish secretary and then business manager. At the school, she volunteered in the library, assisted with hot lunch, and was one of the two founders of the “Children of the Sacred Heart Prayer Group”. Bev served on the St. Joseph School Board for two terms, and as president of the School Board in 1994-1995 and again in 1997-98. Bev and her husband Richard have three grown children and four grandchildren. Isabella, their youngest grandchild attends St. Joseph School and will be entering the 3rd grade. Both of their daughters attended and graduated from St. Joseph School and St. Lucy’s Priory High School.
Elaine Miravite – Secretary
Elaine Miravite (an insurance broker) and her husband Dennis (a registered nurse) have two daughters, Drexel (16 years old, junior at Alta Loma High School) and Drea (9 years old, 4th grader at St. Joseph). The Miravite family has been a part of the St. Joseph Upland Community since 2005. At church, Elaine lectors, while Drexel & Drea are altar servers at the 4pm Saturday Mass. At school, Elaine has served as a Volunteer, Room Parent, Girl Scout Troop Leader, and School Board Member. The Miravites take pride in being part of the St. Joseph Community and are deeply committed to any service they can render. Currently, Elaine is serving as secretary on the Board and she looks forward to being a voice of the community as we navigate these virulent and unprecedented times.
Ross Rodriguez’s parents started his path in Catholic education in 1990 as he graduated from St. Madeleine, Pomona (1998) and from Damien High School class of 2002. With his experiences and knowledge of the foundation of faith you acquire from a Catholic education, he and his wife continue the legacy with their girls. Ross is a proud husband and father to 2 current students at St. Joseph School- Mila (4th) and Giselle (2nd) and one future Viking, Lily aged 3. Entering their second year, he and his wife Jessica (new PTG member) have quickly become involved in serving our school community. Ross is in sales with merchant services and resides in Upland. He is actively involved in coaching and is a board member for his little league in Pomona.
Dr. Alex Galvan, a dentist by profession, and his wife Rose, a registered nurse, are proud parents of 3 St. Joseph School students – Andrea (8th Grade), Andrew (6th Grade) and Abigail (4th Grade). Dr. Galvan practices General, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry at his two offices in Ontario and Rialto, CA. He is in his fourth year of serving in the School Board and was President from 2019-2020. Dr. Galvan and Rose, current treasurer of the Parent Teacher Group (PTG), are active members of St. Joseph Church and Couples for Christ, an evangelistic ministry. The children also serve as altar servers and members of the parish Children’s Choir. Dr. Galvan is also serving as school representative in the St. Joseph Church 100 Year Anniversary Celebration Committee, and is on the Finance and Yearbook Committees.
William Summers has been part of our community for 40+ years. He was born and raised here locally in a Catholic home. He has been very fortunate to have been taught by the Presentation Sisters since the 1st grade and continues his Catholic faith to this day. William and his wife Antoinette have two boys at St. Joseph School this year, Billy is in 8th grade and Joseph is in 4th grade. William and Antoinette are both active in assisting in coaching various St. Joseph sports teams and our Boy Scouts. When William is not homeschooling, he is continuing his 28+ years in the Risk Management/Banking industry.
