SCHOOL BOARD

SCHOOL BOARD

The St. Joseph School Board supports and implements the philosophy of St. Joseph School. The board represents parents and the parish community in decisions relating to the direction of the school. The Board is consultative to the school administration and the Pastor. They establish goals and long-range planning, formulate and monitor policy, prepare and implement the budget, are responsible for the school’s public relations, and review and evaluate programs.

Ross Rodriguez – President

Ross Rodriguez’s parents started his path in Catholic education in 1990 as he graduated from St. Madeleine, Pomona (1998) and from Damien High School class of 2002. With his experiences and knowledge of the foundation of faith you acquire from receiving a Catholic education, he and his wife continue the legacy with their girls. Ross is a proud husband and father to 2 current students at St. Joseph School- Mila (6th) and Giselle (4th), and Lily (Kinder). Entering their fourth year at SJU, he and his wife Jessica (active PTG member) have quickly become involved in serving our school community. Ross manages 2 locations for Rev Varsity Letterman Jackets, and resides in Upland. He is actively involved in coaching softball/T-Ball and has been a board member for his little league in Pomona since 2017.

Gerald Miguel Chavarria – Vice President

Gerald Chavarria is an experienced public safety officer with over twenty years of experience in the emergency medical services and law enforcement fields. Gerald earned his master’s degree in public administration from California State University-Northridge, and is an adjunct professor for a local university. Gerald also runs a health and safety business focused on first aid training programs serving government, and catholic schools in the Los Angeles archdiocese.  Gerald’s Catholic identity is manifested through the love for his family. He has been married to Thania for over 15 years, who also serves on our parish Eucharistic Ministry. They are proud parents of Daniel, currently a fourth grader at Saint Joseph School. Daniel serves as an altar server during Spanish Masses, and is a member of the Upland National Little League’s All Star Team for the player-pitch division.  Gerald’s previous advisement board memberships include Saint Helen Catholic School; where he helped position the school to receive a financial grant for school-wide renovations, and Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic School; helping develop their strategic plan, and renew WASC accreditation.  Gerald understands that with God in a Catholic-centered community, our children can thrive and become Christians that will make positive impacts on their environment. Conversely, the Catholic community should be an effective partner with teachers and staff in an effort to develop our students’ lives. Gerald pledges to leverage his skills, knowledge, and social capital for the betterment of our school community.”

Heather Miller – Secretary

Heather Miller has worked in education for over 25 years and has been a resident of Upland for over 40
years. She is married to Harold and together they have 4 wonderful daughters. The Miller family has
been a part of the St Joseph’s family since 2004. Heather’s 2 oldest daughters have gone through St
Joseph’s School as well as St Lucy’s Priory High School in Glendora. Currently, Kenna has graduated with a double major in Accounting and Human Resources Management and will complete the MBA program at Cal Poly Pomona this year and Emma is a Junior in pursuit of a business degree at Cal Poly Pomona.  Nora is a Junior at St Lucy’s and Heather’s youngest daughter, Olivia, is currently enrolled at St Joseph’s School in 6th grade.

Rick Nunez

I am 50 years old and have been married to my wife Lorraine Lucey for 15 years. We currently reside in Rancho Cucamonga along with our son Davin (13) and Hannah, who is (12).  I am a graduate of Cal State Fullerton and have been with the firm of Colliers International for the last 22 years, where I specialize in the sales and leasing of commercial real estate and real estate investments. My wife, Lorraine is a registered nurse at San Antonio Hospital in Upland, where she has worked for the last 15 years.  Our son Davin is a eighth grader at St. Joseph’s and our daughter Hannah is a seventh grader this school year.  It’s my belief that I can bring a strong financial and business background to the board and look forward to helping any way I can.

Beth Grant

Beth Grant is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a background in medical social work and behavioral health. Her focus and passion throughout her career has been the support of others during transitions in life. Beth is married to Jeff, a graduate of St. Joseph School, and they have 2 daughters at St. Joseph School, Addison in 2nd grade and Avery in 4th grade. The Grant family are active and involved members of St. Anthony Parish in Upland. In her free time Beth plays volleyball, sings with the church choir and serves as a Girl Scout troop leader.

Beth supports the school’s mission and vision on the Board to continue high standards in the education of our children while also supporting each individual’s growth as a strong and vibrant Catholic outside of the classroom. Given her background in mental health, Beth’s expertise supports and guides any agenda item to consider how change would affect our young learners.

Catherine Knaul

Catherine Knaul is a St. Joseph’s Alumni and well as a Bellarmine University Alumni. Catholic education has been of great importance in her life. The Puno/Knaul Family has been with St. Joseph’s since 1990. So when it was time to send their children to school, St. Joseph’s Upland was the natural choice. They currently have a 2nd grader and kindergartener here as well. Catherine is currently attending Law School, but prior to that was the Operations Coordinator for Upland Smile Center, a local dental office. Her husband Andrew Knaul served 12 years in the United States Marine Corps as an E.O.D. Technician (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) and is currently working as a SUXO (Senior Unexploded Ordnance Technician) at Fort Irwin. Last year Catherine was actively involved as a Den Leader for the school’s Cub Scout program but has stepped down in order to focus on her position as a school board member this year.
